Thousands of shark fins dry on the rooftop on a building in Kennedy Town, Hong Kong. Environmentalists want China to outlaw the trade and practice of shark finning, where fins are chopped off the sharks and the bodies thrown back into the water to die. It is estimated that up to 75,000 sharks a year are killed to fulfil the demand in Hong Kong and mainland China for shark fin soup, which is considered a delicacy that is popular in traditional banquets and weddings. Shark fin also has the reputation of benefiting health and boosting sexual potency. | image by Antony Dickson

Uhhh I guess I’ll post this? I like how everything looks as a whole— but conceptually I really failed this project, haha;;The idea was to take an article and apply a sin to it; I chose Greed. The idea was that the bag that they’re in had the potential to hide what was whatever in it, while also representing a money bag; but it became so filled that it overflowed and spilled, unable to hide it anymore (increased awareness of shark finning). “Sharks are slaughtered around the world for their fins, which are used in tasteless soups considered an upper class delicacy in China. Studies estimate the number of sharks killed annually to range from 26 million to 73 million. This staggering amount will wipe several species of sharks off the planet in the next ten years, guaranteed. Once the fins are hacked off of the living animal, it’s wiggling, writhing body is thrown overboard, floating to the bottom where it suffocates, since sharks need to swim to breath, and or is eaten slowly by other animals. It’s a disgusting trade, and insanely barbaric practice, that must be stopped.”
